That day we ran 6K
May 22, 2023
For those suffering from a lack of a reliable water source, six kilometers is the average distance they'll travel daily just to carry water for their daily use. To help provide clean water to those in need, our National Honor Society (NHS) partnered together with World Vision to put on a local Global 6K for Water event. On May 20th, over 24,000 people worldwide participated in the Global 6K to provide over 34,730 people with life-changing access to clean water.
Our International School of Qingao's Dolphins team had 98 participants, who walked, ran, scooted and rolled their way over the beautiful course at the Expo Center. 13 NHS students and 15 staff volunteers put a lot of effort into the event, setting up water stations, holding signs to direct runners and encouraging everyone to do their best. It was amazing to see so many of our Foundations class families participating, even though six kilometers is a long way for such little legs to go. Making it through the balloon arch at the end felt like a major victory as the last stretch of the race was an uphill jog from the Expo Center gate to the school's main entrance.
Each race registration went directly to World Vision who will use the funds from the run to provide safe water, improve sanitation and hygiene in hard-to-reach areas like sub-Saharan Africa. The Global 6K for Water race bibs were unique – each one had the photo and name of a child in need of clean water and improved living conditions. Thank you to everyone who participated, raising just under ¥30,000 and showing a heart of compassion and service to the least of these.
"Every step you take is one they won't have to."
