QISN MS Soccer tournament results

This past weekend our MS’ers participated in the annual Qingdao International School’s Network (QISN) Soccer tournament.

We sent one boy’s and one girls’ team to play, and after successfully navigating the group games, our teams edged out the competition (3-2 and 1-0 respectively) to get the chance to compete in the Championship games.

At ISQ we are building a culture of working hard and where possible, to win too. Reaching championship games is exciting! However, although our girls team took 2nd place and our boys 1st place, our aim is to continually instill in our students that what you win is secondary to how you play and win.

We love that we get to celebrate these achievements… Yaay!!!

We also want remember that we value working as a team, having fun, showing respect, serving others and acting in humility.

Well done Dolphins!!!

Report back on MUN conference in Tianjin

On October 24th-26th ISQ had the wonderful opportunity to attend TIANMUN, a Model United Nations Conference held at Tianjin International School. Model United Nations is an academic program that simulates the United Nations. Schools from all over the region assemble to attend and the entire program is run by students.

In committees students researched, collaborated, wrote resolutions, and delivered speeches for a number of the world’s toughest challenges. Some of the committees were the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Human Rights Council, and there was even a Chinese Council.

ISQ sent thirty students who attended as delegates of nations, chairmen and chairwomen, and one student represented the press. The grades of the students ranged from 8th-12th. Our school is proud to report that all of our students delivered at least two speeches. Several of our students were chosen as the “main submitter” of the resolution they wrote. This means that the fellow delegates in their committees chose their resolution as the one that was the best for collaboration and debate. During the Closing Ceremony, the following four students won awards: Keven Choi of 8th grade, Jason Lee and David Sun of 9th, and Esther Jeong of 10th.

ISQ plans to return to TIANMUN next year. We also look forward to seeing many of the same students attend the conference we host in February– MUNiSC!
