Meet the Counselors
September 23, 2022
At the International School of Qingdao, the work of counseling involves helping students to cultivate healthy patterns, handle transitions, and overcome obstacles of academic growth. It is our joy to introduce to you Nancy Wang who will work with our youngest students, and Yvonne Ng who takes up the role in our secondary. We look forward to the ways they will continue to develop the strength of our social emotional program here.
Nancy Wang Sijie
M.A. Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Liberty University
TKT & Celt-P Certificates, Cambridge
Chinese Senior Middle School Teacher Qualification Certificate
With over 700 clinical hours and a passion for continuing her education in the field of counseling research, Ms. Nancy Wang has a lot of experience, wisdom, and knowledge to share with our elementary and early childhood students. Ms. Nancy, as she is known to the students, has been working at ISQ as a learning support teacher prior to taking the role of social emotional counseling.
Like students at the International School of Qingdao, Ms. Nancy was herself an international student. She completed her bachelor’s degree in education in Saipan and then spent four years in the USA to complete her master's degree. She remembers what it was like to spend time immersed in another culture and enjoys the environment at ISQ where students of different cultures intermingle and learn to value one another as a larger community.
As she works with the young students at the International School of Qingdao, Ms. Nancy hopes to help every child embrace their differences and feel comfortable with who they are. She looks forward to working with parents as a team for student wellbeing.
Yvonne Ng
B.A. Counseling, Singapore University of Social Sciences
TESOL Certificate
Ms. Ng spent two years in Xi'An, studying Chinese and enjoyed living in China and the international community. Wanting to come back after her stint as a student, Ms. Ng returned to Singapore where she completed her Bachelor of Counseling degree.
Like many of our students, Ms. Ng's educational experience was affected by the outbreak of Covid-19 in early 2020. While in her final months as a university student, Ms. Ng's classes and exams were all moved online. And like many of our students, she found the experience to be mixed -- she thought the online classes weren't as interesting, she missed interacting with her peers, and found that personal connections were harder to make with professors. On the other hand, it was convenient to attend classes online from the comfort of her own home!
In her role as counselor and advisory leader, Ms. Ng brings her education and experience as she helps our students keep their overall wellbeing in focus. Her hope is that students will look back on their season at the International School of Qingdao with enjoyment, having balanced academics, physical, and emotional health.
