From questions to discoveries: Qingdao Middle School science fair

May 02, 2025

On April 30, our school lobby became a showcase of ideas as middle school students presented their work in this year’s Middle School Science Fair. A total of 19 projects were selected across two categories: Engineering and Research, with participants from Grades 6 to 8.

This event wasn’t about flashy presentations or fierce competition. It was a space for students to explore meaningful questions, challenge their thinking, and reflect on their learning process. The fair gave students the chance to share what they’ve built, observed and tested—some for the very first time.

Our high school science students served as judges this year, offering thoughtful feedback and modeling leadership and service in action. Their role helped elevate the experience, encouraging middle schoolers to consider new directions and refine their ideas.

Mr. Morales, our middle school science teacher who put tremendous effort into organizing this fair, shared: “While only a few projects received awards, every participant demonstrated curiosity, courage, persistence, and collaboration. These are the things we value most in [students’] learning.”
