Elementary Dolphins take the field at Qingdao soccer tournament
May 19, 2025
Last Friday, our upper elementary students made their athletic debut at the Qingdao Elementary Soccer Tournament, also known as QISN, hosted by QAIS at the Lion Mall field. For many of our Grade 3 to 5 students, this was their very first opportunity to represent our school, International School of Qingdao, in an interschool competition—and they stepped onto the field with courage, joy and determination.
We sent five teams: a Grade 3 mixed team, two boys teams, and two girls teams from Grades 4 and 5. Throughout the day, our young athletes played against teams from other international schools across Qingdao, showing great sportsmanship, teamwork and growth. It was more than just a tournament—it was a celebration of participation and the joy of playing together.
“Our goal was simple—give students the chance to compete, grow and have fun,” said Ms. Oh, our PE teacher .
Helping to lead that goal were three high school students who volunteered as coaches for the day. Their presence on the sidelines created a meaningful mentorship moment, offering younger students encouragement and modeling leadership in action.
“The kids had fun, the coaches had fun—it was a fantastic day of playing!” said Mr. Thompson, our Athletic Director.
Families also came out in full force, cheering from the sidelines and capturing special memories. One parent, Matthew’s mom from Grade 5, even put together a highlight video so we can all relive the excitement.
Congratulations to all our elementary Dolphins for a strong start to your sports journey. You represented our school with heart, energy and integrity. We’re so proud of the way you played—and this is only the beginning.
