A magical journey: Peter Pan

Last weekend's production of Peter Pan, the Almost Musical, was a resounding success. Audiences were enchanted by the classic tale brought to life by our drama department. The cooperation between middle school, high school and staff actors alongside parent and student volunteer tech and backstage help made for an incredible experience for those involved in the play. One volunteer commented, "I loved every moment of being there for this show!" Ms. Petersen and Mr. Yu worked tirelessly with students and to build an incredible set.  

On Friday afternoon the actors performed for the elementary students and then again in the evening for a general audience. The final showing was Saturday evening, after several of the actors had already played basketball at the Qingdao International Schools Network (QISN) tournament in the morning. The different audiences responded to the action just as one would hope – cheering for Pan in his battle against his nemesis, Captain Hook, shouting out warnings when they saw pirates and clapping enthusiastically to revive Tinkerbell after she drank poison.  

Highlights from the production were when Peter and his Lost Boys sang, "I Won't Grow Up!" and the amazing acrobatics of the Indians when they were on lookout. Hook and his loyal boatswain Smee were perfect as both evil Pirate leader and his somewhat clueless and adorable companion. The Lost Boys adventurous spirit and need for a mother were endearing and the fight scenes had everyone roaring. Well done, drama department!
