Secondary Parent Meetings

Dear ISQ Secondary Parents,

Each year, ISQ Secondary Principals host parent meetings in which parents have the opportunity to hear highlights about annual programming as well as ask questions that are important to them. Middle School Parent Meetings will feature information about upcoming Fall Trips and High School Parent Meetings will feature information about graduation requirements. Fall MAP Testing

Dear Parents,

During the month of September, all our students from grade K to 10 will take a MAP® (Measuring Academic Progress) Growth™ test from NWEA® on a computer or iPad. We give students MAP Growth tests to determine their instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in Reading, Math, Language Arts, and Science.

MAP Growth tests are unique in that they adapt to your child’s level of learning. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This results in a detailed picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.

Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly.
MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject, and have the same starting performance level. Each school year, students in Kindergarten to grade 10 take the tests in Reading and Math, grades 3-10 take the language arts test, and grades 6-8 also take the test in Science. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth, which you can review with your child’s teacher for more insight.

You will be notified of the testing schedules closer to the time. Please help your child get plenty of sleep before his/her tests and try not to miss any testing school days (unless very ill). Please encourage him/her to do his/her best and make sure he/she answers every question. Even if he/she is not familiar with the material, he/she should select a best guess answer. Remember, this first test is like a pre-test, to help teachers assess where your child is in his/her learning.

We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement. For more information about the MAP Growth test, visit: https://www.nwea.org/parent-toolkit/.

Sincerely,
Geetha Bridgeman
MAP Testing Coordinator

Important Notice for Your Scholastic Ordering

Dear Parents,

Scholastic Book Club is an internationally recognized U.S. based company. Scholastic provides quality English books to schools in America and around the world as a service to school communities. Although ISQ is not affiliated with this company, we understand the importance of providing opportunities to families who would like access to English books for personal purchase. In China, Scholastic has organized an online platform (through WeChat) for international school families to order books. Although the book orders will be shipped to the school campus for pick-up, Scholastic is the company who handles all aspects of the book order fulfillment.

The attached book catalog is a preview of what books are available for this order. If you desire to place an order, you will find step-by-step instructions on the back of this catalog. Please follow the instructions carefully as once an order is submitted, it cannot be changed. The due date to place your order is Wednesday, September 25th. After that, your orders will not be accepted by the system.

Once orders are placed, Scholastic will process the order and ship books to ISQ in five to eight weeks. When the boxes are delivered to your child’s classroom, the children can take their package of book home. If you happen to have any problems with your order, please contact Scholastic directly through their official WeChat account.

Please be aware that due to this online system, ISQ staff unfortunately cannot help with ordering or answering questions. ISQ is NOT ALLOWED to accept cash or have access to your Scholastic account. Please send your questions, comments, and concerns to the Scholastic company directly. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
ISQ Library
