After School Activites: Grade 3-5 Science Lab
The High School Science Club teaches different topics every week. This class was on magnetism, with students learning about magnetic fields and forces. In the experiment, students had to move the yellow truck without touching it, learning first hand about repulsion and attraction between magnetic poles.
What’s available in Canvas?
We recently initiated the “ISQ Parents Portal” on Canvas, and here are a few reminders of how to find your way around.
If you still haven’t been able to log in to Canvas, please send an email to Karen Anderson: firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are excited to help you navigate this new Portal. Look out next week for our upcoming guides on how to access report cards in PowerSchool.

This is an exciting announcement regarding our channels of communication going forward. At the end of this quarter we will be phasing out our Lighthouse News weekly newsletter. Instead, we will replace the newsletter with more timely, direct communications.
The goal is to ultimately move all our communications over to Canvas LMS, utilizing the notifications function. But in the meantime, there is no change to how you will receive messages - you will continue to get notices via email and via the usual WeChat class groups.
We know this is a big change, and we will make sure to walk everyone through the process step-by-step.
The win in making these changes is that staff, students, and parents will have much more efficient, relevant, and easier channels of communication.
We’re looking forward to making these improvements and adjustments that value best practices for our ISQ community.

New Temperature Logs
Dear ISQ Parents,
A new directive from the Qingdao Education Bureau requires that all students and staff keep a daily log of their temperatures taken each evening (over and above the regular temperature checks done at school).
To make this tracking easier, we are providing log-in sheets of paper that you can fill out each evening (both weekdays and weekends), with a tear-off section for each day.
From Friday evening, January 15th, please begin filling in the weekend section of your child's paper temperature log, tear it off and send it to school with your child on Monday morning. Depending on how they get to school, your child will either need to hand the paper slips to their bus TA before boarding their bus, or will need to hand their slips in at the school gate before entering campus.
This paper log system will run up until the close of school for Chun Jie break, and then over the break we will use PowerSchool to record daily temperatures. More information and instructions for using the PowerSchool system will be sent out closer to the time.
Thank you for working with us to keep our school and community safe and healthy.
