Welcome Back to 2nd Semester !

ISC Parent Survey

Dear Parents,

It is January, and we’re excited to begin second semester. For those of you with us last year, you may remember that we conduct an annual school-wide survey of parents, students, and staff. Having your thoughtful input helps us in our continual efforts to improve the educational experience for your children.

The survey asks questions about your experiences with the school’s learning environment (physical, as well as social and emotional), the educational programs, your child’s teachers, school safety, school-home communication, and opportunities for parental involvement. We need your perspective as we evaluate these aspects of our school, and we appreciate your comments. We welcome survey responses from both parents, or one parent can respond for the whole family.

Survey participants will be entered into a drawing and one lucky person will win an ISQ mug and a new 2019 ISQ art calendar. Please note, even though the survey asks for your name for the drawing, your answers are anonymous and your responses will not be seen by anyone at ISQ because this survey is handled externally.

Thanks again for your support of our school.

Mid-Year MAP Testing for Kindergarten-Fifth Grade

Dear Kindergarten-Fifth Grade Parents,

Next week, your child will take a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on iPads, in their classrooms. This is our mid-year test (the second MAP test this school year). We give students MAP Growth tests to determine their instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in Reading and Math. Grades 3-5 will also take a Language Arts test.

Please help your child get plenty of sleep at night and eat a good breakfast before coming to school next week.

MAP Growth tests are unique in that they adapt to your child’s level of learning. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This results in a detailed picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.

Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly. The results of this mid-year test will help teachers to adjust how to better assist your child to progress in their learning.

MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject, and have the same starting performance level. Each school year, students in Kindergarten-Fifth grade take the tests in September, January, and April. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth, which you can review with your child’s teacher for more insight. I will be sending home a MAP Progress Report for your child before the end of February.

We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement. For more information about the MAP Growth test, visit: MAP Growth.

Please email me at HKwon@isqchina.com if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Hannah Kwon
Map Testing Coordinator

China Week Assembly Performance

Dear parents,

Our annual China Week is two weeks away! China Week will fall on the last week of January (January 21-25) before Chinese New Year. Our annual China Week will end with a special assembly. At this assembly, every student will have the chance to show their talents that are related to and express Chinese culture.

For the ECC and Elementary students, if they are in Chinese class, their Chinese teachers might help them to prepare during class time. If they are not in Chinese class, they can contact our Chinese teachers for an audition after the Christmas Break. Middle School and High School students can sign in to participate in the assembly through our High School International Club.

We are excited to see our students’ talents on the stage!

Staff Transitions for 2019/2020 School Year

We have a detailed communication plan in place regarding the transitions in our staffing that will occur for the 2019/2020 academic year. At the moment, ISQ is still in the process of determining staffing for both Teaching and Support Staff. This is a complex and multifaceted process and we will be updating the ISQ community at specific times to highlight the various changes. The first piece of communication is anticipated to be distributed before Chinese New Year. We are confident and expectant as we move forward towards a new academic year.
